iPhone 2.2 Firmare arrives — so does pwnage for 2.2

by Tony Mattke on November 25, 2008

Ok, so I’m a few days behind on this one… BUT I’ve been running 2.2 jailbroken for a few days and my phone runs wonderfully. Altho, I had a rough start with Categories.. seems that there are some updates that need to be done there.. although I haven’t had a chance to dig in and see what may be causing the issues yet. Has anyone taken a look yet?

There are a few things you’re going to want to pay careful attention to on this update. First off, if you’re going to want the chance to soft unlock your 3g phone in the near futuer, do not do an update via iTunes or QuickPwn. You need to generate your own firmware to upload to the phone that removes the baseband update in 2.2. The iPhone dev team has made great progress in the current 3g baseband, there are no promises they will hack the new baseband in a timely manor, or at all.  Second, several people have emailed me with issues of their phone not being activated after jailbreaking 2.2 — in all cases they were on AT&T and had left the activation hack checked in the pwnage tool.

After this update came out, I decided to change how I do the information here for my iPhone. Instead of keeping a long page of updates, and software that I use, I may just blog from time to time about what I’m using, or what I’ve hacked, and update the links to those articles on that iPhone page.. note quite sure yet, but I know I want to make a change… let me know what you think.

Anyway, here are some links for you..

I should also mention that there is an issue with the late 2008 macbook/air/pro — I’m not 100% sure what has happened, but DFU mode isn’t working. It is possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> Pwned 2.2, it is not possible to go stock -> pwned with Mac OSX and the Late 2008 models. (I have not tested this in Windows as I do not have a non-pwned phone to test with — comments anyone?)
