What this site collects, which is not much
This is a personal blog, not an ad business. There are no ad networks here, nothing gets sold, and I don’t build profiles of the people who read it. Here’s everything that touches your data, and why.
This page is only about data. Opinions, sponsors, vendor gifts and NDAs live in the disclaimer.
Analytics
I count visits with Plausible, running on my own server. It doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t fingerprint you and doesn’t follow you to other sites. It records the page you visited, where you came from (the referrer or a utm_ tag on the link), your browser, operating system and device type, your approximate location (country, region and city) and how far you scrolled. Your IP address and browser string are only used to make a daily identifier for counting unique visitors, the salt behind it is deleted every 24 hours, and neither is ever stored. Plausible’s data policy has the details.
The newsletter
If you subscribe, I store your email address in Listmonk, which I also run myself, along with when you signed up. A small Cloudflare Worker takes the form submission and adds you to the list. I use the address to send new posts and nothing else. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
The contact form
Messages from the contact form are delivered to my inbox by Formspree, which keeps a copy under its own privacy policy. I only use what you send me to reply to you.
Bot checks
The newsletter and contact forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to keep spam bots out. It runs a check in your browser when you load a form, and Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy.
Comments
Comments run on giscus, which stores them as GitHub Discussions in a public repository (tonhe/routerjockey-comments). The comment box loads when you scroll down to it, and giscus doesn’t use ads, trackers or cookies of its own. To post you sign in with GitHub, and what you write is public on GitHub under your account, governed by GitHub’s privacy statement. Comments from the Disqus years (2009 to 2026) are archived on each post as plain text, showing only the name and date the commenter gave at the time. No email addresses or other account details from Disqus were kept.
Embedded videos
A few posts embed YouTube videos. They load from YouTube’s privacy enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com), so YouTube doesn’t set cookies until you press play.
Hosting and the store
The site is hosted on GitHub Pages, so GitHub sees ordinary web server traffic (IP addresses and requested pages) under its privacy statement. The store runs on Fourthwall, which handles orders and payments under its own policies. I never see your payment details.
Questions
If you want to know what I have on you, or want something deleted, get in touch and I’ll take care of it.
